Joseph William Grimes, Jr., 79, of Gambrills, Maryland, passed away on Sunday, June 18, 2023. Joe was born in Annapolis, Maryland, to the late Mary and Joseph Grimes, Sr. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy, achieving the rank of Aviation Bosun's Mate, the U.S. Army as a M.P., and the Naval Reserves as a Seabee. After serving in the military, he further served his country working at the Department of Defense as a project manager. Joe was the former president of the East Glen Burnie Athletic Club and was a member of the Glen Burnie Moose Lodge. He enjoyed helping people, fishing, crabbing, boating, yardwork, spending time at the Ocean Pines beach home but most of all, he loved being with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Joe is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Judith Faye Grimes; his beloved children, Lisa Dougherty and Joseph Grimes, III; his cherished grandchildren, Lexi Dougherty, Mark Grimes, Alyssa Dougherty, Jake Grimes, and Claire Grimes; and his dear siblings, Betty McNew and Joan Lowman. In addition to his parents, Joe was predeceased by his sister, Jean Leonard.
Family and friends are invited to gather at Singleton Funeral & Cremation Services, P.A., 1 2nd Avenue, S.W. (at Crain Hwy), in Glen Burnie, on Monday, June 26th, from 11:30 AM -12:30 PM. A Celebration of Life Service will be held immediately following at 12:30PM in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be at Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Joe's name are requested to be made to SPCA of Anne Arundel County at aacspca.org
