Joseph Thomas “Tommy” Guedry, Jr., 77, of St. Amant, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 2, 2026, surrounded by his loving family after courageously battling cancer for many years.
Tommy was a devoted husband to his wife of 55 years, Jacquelene Steele Guedry, and a proud and loving father to his son and daughter-in-law, Shayne Thomas Guedry (Kerri Cantrelle) of Harvey, LA, and daughter and son-in-law, Jaime L. Maranto (John Maranto Jr.) of Prairieville, LA.
He was a proud Pawpaw to Taylor, Riley and Courtney Hall, and Seth and Sadie Guedry, and a doting great-grandfather to Copeland Hall.
Tommy also leaves behind a large extended family of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and even a great-great nephew. But family to Tommy wasn’t just about blood — he was a father, Pawpaw, and uncle to many who were blessed by his kindness and generosity. He never met a stranger and lived life with an open heart and helping hands.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Thomas Guedry, Sr. and Laura Mae Hidalgo “Lolly” Guedry, his brother, Donald Paul Guidry, and his sister, Mary Terese Guedry James.
Tommy worked for many years as a millwright, iron worker, and pipe fitter with Local 102, contributing his skill and work ethic to plants throughout Ascension Parish. After retiring, he found joy in life’s simple pleasures — spending time with his family and friends, tinkering in his woodshop, hunting, fishing and sharing laughter around the fire with his close circle with a cold beer in hand. He loved creating, fixing, and giving — always happiest when he could help someone else.
In his younger years, Tommy was a talented Golden Gloves boxer, known for his Southpaw stance and quick hands. He trained at Delta Gym in Metairie, LA, where he earned many trophies and titles that reflected his determination and drive.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Tommy’s honor on Saturday, March 21, 2026 at The Venue of St. Amant, LA (13475 Hwy 431 St. Amant, LA 70774) from 4pm until 8pm.
The family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to Pastor Craig of New River Baptist Church and to his compassionate care team with St. Joseph Hospice — Melissa Mistretta, Amelie Fleming, Barbara Burton, Suzie Mines, and Megan Holder — for their exceptional kindness and support.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Tommy's memory to the Cancer Research Society in Tommy’s memory.
