2024
Joseph Hawk went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and his beloved wife on Thursday, June 13, 2024.
Joseph was one of a set of twins born to Benjamin Rufus Hawk and Viola (Bennett) Hawk in Bicknell, IN on July 19, 1932. He grew up in Bicknell, IN. He left home at the age of 16 to go to Indianapolis, IN to live with his sister, Dorothy and her husband, Jim. He worked in a bakery. When he left the bakery, he procured a job at Allison Transmission where he worked a few years.
Joseph attended the Brookside Pilgrim Holiness Church in Indianapolis. At the age of 22, he met the love of his life, Una Faye Nofsinger. She became his lovely bride on February 20, 1954 in a wedding ceremony at the Hillsboro Pilgrim Holiness Church in Hillsboro, WI (Una's hometown) officiated by Dr. O. D. Emery. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on February 20, 2024 with family and friends.
Joe and Una settled in Indianapolis after they were married and continued to attend the Brookside Pilgrim Holiness Church. The pastor, Rev. Chester Wilkins, told Joe that he would make a good carpenter.
It was then that Joe started his lifelong career of carpentry. His accomplishments as a carpenter made people desire to have him do carpentry for them, especially trimwork. He was an exceptional master carpenter. His work was always top-notch and as close to perfection as anyone could get. He built two of the houses he and the family lived in.
They were very involved in the Wesleyan Church for most of their lives making many special friends and sharing their talents for the Lord. He served as trustee at the churches they attended. He was given the Distinguished Service award for his years of service to the church by the Grace Pointe Church of the Nazarene in May of 2004.
Joe took the scriptures seriously and the mission that God has given us. He talked to everyone he met about Jesus and His love for us. He wanted everyone to go to Heaven someday.
Family was important to him. He made sure he shared his love to each family member every time he saw them. Family devotion time and singing together around the piano with Mom playing, was a big part of our lives.
Their union produced 3 children, Rachel Elaine (Donald) Haworth of Hillsboro, WI, Philip Lee (Deborah) Hawk of Portland, OR, Timothy Carl (Patty) Hawk of Johnston, RI.
Joseph is survived by one sister-in-law, Vada (Leonard) Hawk, 3 children, 12 grandchildren, and 21 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Una, his parents, 11 siblings, and 1 grandchild.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2024, from 10AM-11AM at Flanner Buchanan-Memorial Park. A funeral service will be held at 11AM. Joseph will be laid to rest in Memorial Park Cemetery.
