Joseph P Hughes 86 of Toms River died at Community Medical Center, Toms River on Friday March 28, 2025. Born in Newark, he resided in North Arlington from 1962 -1994 before moving to Toms River 31 years ago. Joe served in the Air Force with strategic air command at Loring Air Force Base in Limestone. ME from 1957-1961. He worked as a detective for the North Arlington Police Dept for 25 years before retiring in 1992. He was a former member and secretary of the Lake Ridge Men's Club and the American Legion Post #129 in Toms River. He is predeceased by his wives, Marie Muccilo Hughes of 22 years and his ex-wife Joann Smith Hughes of 29 years. Surviving are his children, Joseph E Hughes, Scott E Hughes & wife Tracey, Judith McDonald, Maria Golda & husband Ed, and Gina Logan & husband Scott, sisters, Ann Marie Gajda & Margaret Goldman; 9 grandchildren, Sean McDonald (Raquel), Ryan McDonald (Alexandrea), Nikki Castellano (Gerard), Stephanie Vadino (Ryan), Drew Logan, Eddie Golda, Aidan, Declan & Finley and 3 great grandchildren, Madison, Riley & Elsa. Memorial Gathering is Friday April 11th at 12 PM at Oliverie Funeral Home 2925 Ridgeway Rd Manchester with inurnment to follow at Brigdr Gen Wm C Doyle NJ Veterans Cemetery, Arneytown. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Wounded Warrior Project 370 7th Ave New York, NY 10001.
