Joseph "Joe" Thornton Obituary

 

Joseph “Joe” Boswell Thornton, age 87, of Easley, South Carolina entered into eternal rest on Friday, May 5, 2023, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.

Joe was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He served his country with honor in the United States Navy. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Easley. He enjoyed propagating plants and tending to his yard. He was also an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching his Atlanta Braves. He will be remembered for his witty sense of humor and especially for telling his “Dad” jokes. He loved to spend time with his family. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Left to cherish the many memories of Joe are his sons, Dennis Allen Thornton (Beverly) and Sean Michael Thornton (LeAnne); a daughter, Michelle Thornton Anders (Steve); two sisters, Barbara Dionne and Joyce Trestik; a sister-in-law, Virginia Lea Goggin; and his grandchildren, Joe Waide Anders, Erin Anders Davis (Grant), Casey Alexandra Thornton, Thomas Boswell Thornton, Tanner Waide Thornton, Payton Lane Thornton, and Grayson Kennedy Thornton. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Alice Sue Thornton; his parents, Stephen Fairfield Thornton and Elinor Monroe Thornton; also, a brother, Robert Q. Thornton. 

The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at Robinson Funeral home. The funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 9, 2023, in the Chapel of Robinson Funeral Home on Powdersville Road. The burial will follow the service in Robinson Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Easley First United Methodist Church/ Memorial Fund, 115 West 1st Avenue, Easley, SC 29640.

The family would like to thank Casey Smith, special caregiver to Joe and friend for the past three and a half years.
