Joseph "Joe" Edward Johnson, Sr., 67, a resident of Iowa, passed from this life on February 11, 2024, in a local hospital.
Joe will forever be remembered for his generous and giving nature and unmatched work ethic. Joe loved his two children immensely and took great pride in their accomplishments. He loved cooking and spending time with his children, grandchildren, extended family, and community. From a young age, Joe was a man of the seas, rivers, and bayous. Joe loved the water and made his forever home on the Calcasieu River. Mr. Johnson loved serving his community in any way he could. His knowledge base was expansive, as he could fix or build anything. Born with an entrepreneurial mindset, Joe successfully started and operated numerous businesses, including Gayle's Hardware, Poppy Joe's Cajun Express, On the Bayou Restaurant in Colorado, and Johnson Mortuary Service, culminating with the opening of his lifelong dream, Johnson and Brown Funeral in 2010 with his wife, Kelli.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Harvey R. Johnson and Odelia Richard Johnson, sister, Mabel Johnson Morein, brother Harvey "Neils" Johnson, and nephew, Douglas Johnson.
Mr. Johnson leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Kelli Brown Johnson; son, Joseph Edward Johnson, Jr., and his Fiancé Eva Slaughter; daughter, Misty LeBleu and husband, Cody. Joe was Poppy Joe to his nine grandchildren: Dawson Dickerson, Kennedy LeBleu, Logan LeBleu, Presley LeBleu, Jake Slaughter, and Joseph "JoJo" Joubert, Max Litton, Myles Litton, and Carter Litton; sister, Sallie Domingue and husband Harold, brothers, Robert Johnson and wife Carol and Andrew H. Johnson and wife Rhonda.
Honored to serve as pallbearers: Joseph Johnson, Jr., Dawson Dickerson, Jason Johnson, Casey Devillier, Craig Domingue, and Harles Smart. Serving as honorary pallbearers: Jake, JoJo, Max, Logan, and Myles.
The family will receive friends on Friday, February 16, 2024, from 1:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the Knights of Columbus Hall located at 503 US 90 E Iowa, LA 70647, and again on Saturday, February 17, 2024, from 8:00 am until time of service. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am. Rev. Roland Vaughn and Rev. George Lee Glass will officiate. Private burial will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery.
