It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Joseph John Kolba, Jr., a lifelong resident of Yonkers, New York, who passed away on August 21, 2023, at the age of 90. He was loved very much by his entire family.
Joseph was born on November 16, 1932 in Yonkers, New York. He was the son of the late Joseph John Kolba, Sr. and Mary Huchko Kolba.
Joseph graduated from Saunders Trades and Technical High School in Yonkers, New York. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp (USMC), serving his country proudly in Korea for 4 years as Technical Sergeant. After USMC, he attended Columbia University in New York, receiving a Bachelor's Degree.
On October 31, 1959, he married his sweetheart, Pauline Hoisik, predeceased in 2009.
He is survived by his children, Paula Cobuzzi and her husband Rick of Southbury, CT, Diana DeBellis and her husband Michael of Hopewell Junction, NY, Joseph John Kolba and his wife Jennifer of Utica, NY, Elinor Cioppa and her husband Ernest of Hopewell Junction, NY, and Mary Rose Ciocchi and her husband Michael of LaGrangeville, NY. He is also survived by his fifteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son, Jeffrey Kolba as well as his brother, Robert Kolba and sister, Eleanor Kolba.
Joseph was a New York City Police Officer and retired as a Police Sergeant. After retirement, he worked for the Montrose VA Medical Center in Montrose, New York as a Sergeant Security Officer.
Joseph was a lifelong, dedicated parishioner and usher at Saint Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Mount Vernon, New York.
Joseph's life was his family. He loved going to family gatherings, especially at Christmas time, dressing up as Santa and giving out presents to his children and grandchildren. He loved dancing, singing and telling stories of his life to his family. Joseph spent time at home gardening, planting his tomatoes, cooking, watching his sports teams: the NY Mets and NY Giants and walking. Joseph will be remembered always as putting his family before himself.

A at Saint Mary's Church, 23 South High Street, Mount Vernon, New York 10550. Joseph will be laid to rest at Woodlawn Cemetery - E. 233rd Street & Webster Avenue - Bronx, NY 10470.
