Joseph Gerard Krauss, known affectionately as Joe to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2025, in Berea, Kentucky. Born on April 28, 1958, in Detroit, Michigan, Joe was a man of unwavering faith. He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Dorothy Kroczak Krauss.
Joe dedicated 37 years of his life to serving his community as a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service, a role he performed with dedication and a friendly smile. His commitment to his work was matched only by his love for his family. He leaves behind his beloved spouse of 34 years, Renee Krauss; his cherished daughter, Katrina Krauss, and her husband, Kyle Johnson. He also leaves behind two bonus sons that he dearly loved, Brian Elliott, and Cory Elliott; his precious in laws, Brian and Nancy Johnson; his dear sister, Debby (Marty) Piet, along with two nieces, Elizabeth and Katy, and one nephew, Michael, and his childhood friends the St. Barbara Boys, Mark Sikina, Dave Sajdak, Ed Kuciemba, Dave Zagornik, Frank Psaila, John Gury, Daniel Horvath, and Ted Pajor.
A man of many passions, Joe never missed a Kentucky Derby since turning 18, reveling in the thrill of horse racing. He was a very faithful long-time member at St. Claire Catholic Church in Berea. His love for the outdoors was evident in his enjoyment of fishing at the beach and the countless hours he spent tending to his backyard, which was his personal haven.
Joe's life was a testament to his faith-filled spirit, and he will be remembered for his unwavering belief in God and the love he shared with those around him. His legacy of kindness and devotion will continue to inspire all who knew him.
