Joseph Francis Labbé Jr., 81, of Jefferson, LA, passed away peacefully at Colonial Oaks Living Center in Metairie, LA. Born on October 12, 1943, in Spanish Lake, LA, he was the beloved son of the late Joseph and Marjorie (Delahoussaye) Labbé of New Iberia, LA.
Joseph graduated from Sacred Heart High School and attended college for one year in Maryland before dedicating 35 years to the United States Postal Service. Joseph was a lifelong member of his local union at the Postal Service. A proud veteran, Joseph served four years in the United States Air Force, reflecting his deep love for his country.
He was known for his mischievous sense of humor, remarkable memory, and meticulous attention to detail, traits that endeared him to all. Joseph's charisma, often described as that of a "silver-tongued devil," and “Canaille” made him a friend to many. In retirement, he obtained his CDL license, enjoying the freedom of the open road.
Joseph's hobbies included watching sports, exploring religious artifacts, and, most of all, spending time with his family. He took particular joy in his role as a grandfather, proudly proclaiming the good looks of his grandchildren as his own doing. His love for mowing the yard was matched only by his affection for sweets.
Joseph never missed an opportunity to express his love for his family and friends, always using humor to make connections and foster friendships. He faced personal struggles with quiet dignity, always prioritizing the needs and happiness of others. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him as a dedicated public servant, a loving family man, and a true friend.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Joseph Labbé III (Rocio Milagros Labbe), Andre’ Labbé (Kathryn), and René Labbé Sr. (Marisela); his siblings, Hayward John Labbé Sr. (Marjorie), Peter M. Labbé Sr. (Sherril), Paul G. Labbé (Lane), Lillie M. Labbé, and Lou A. Nelson (Michael); and his beloved grandchildren, Claudia Elizabeth Labbe’, Daniel Alexander Labbe’, Megan (Sean) Bretz, Lauren, Noah, Rene’ Jr., and Josiah.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Janie Fontenot; and his uncle John P. Delahoussaye.
