Joseph P. Lavelli

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of our beloved father and grandfather, Joseph P. Lavelli of Astoria, New York, who passed away on January 15, 2026, at the age of 95.
Born on March 19, 1930, in Astoria, New York, to the late Peter and Rose Lavelli, Joseph was a proud veteran of the Korean War, a devoted family man, and a skilled ironworker. He lived a life marked by kindness, integrity, a wonderful sense of humor, and compassion for all, leaving an indelible mark on everyone he met.
To his grandchildren, he was simply "Pop-Pop," a source of
endless wisdom, quiet strength, and boundless love. Joseph was a proud graduate of Bryant High School and an honored athlete-his photo remains on the wall among the school's honored athletes. He pursued his baseball career on a scholarship to St. Johns University, where he also studied law. We will forever cherish his baseball stories from his youth. Drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in 1953, he played for their farm team. He taught us the value of hard work, honesty, and family, and his spirit will continue to guide us.
Joseph P. Lavelli is survived by his children, Peter, Joseph
(Renee, and JoAnn (Kerry); his six grandchildren; and his nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Antionette Lavelli.
We will hold him close in our hearts always. May he rest in eternal peace.
