Joseph Hal Metzger

Joseph "Hal" Metzger, 83, of Alexandria, passed away peacefully at his residence on December 10, 2025. He was born on August 17, 1942, in Cincinnati, OH, to the late Joseph and Dolores (née Hengehold) Metzger.
Hal proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam era, spending much of his service time stationed in Germany. Following his military service, he began his career as an accountant with Diamond International. Later, he continued his dedicated work life with the United States Postal Service as a mail handler at the Cincinnati postal hub.
He was a faithful and active member of American Legion Post 219, the Knights of Columbus Fr. DeJaco Council, and 53 years on the Board of Adjustment for the City of Alexandria. He served on St Mary's Parish Council and was a volunteer for the
Alexandria Fire and Squad.
Hal is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Kathleen; two daughters, Karen (Christopher) Youger and Jennifer (Kevin) Sargent; two brothers, Roger Lee (Melissa) Metzger and Thomas Frederick (Laura) Metzger; and his sister, Mary Stephanie Guidugli. He was a proud grandfather to his three granddaughters-Abigail Sargent, Mary Sargent, and Abigail P. Sargent-and six grandsons: Joseph Griffin-Ayers, Charles Griffin-Ayers, Brayden Griffin-Ayers, Justin Sargent, Bryce Sargent, and Jake
Sargent.
Visitation will be held on Monday, December 22, 2025, at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 8246 East Main Street, Alexandria, KY 41001, from 9:30 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery (located at 205 Eibeck Lane) in Williamstown, KY 41097 at 2pm. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Alexandria VFW at a later date.
