Joseph Anthony Millington, 71, of Hartford CT, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on August 28, 2024.
Joseph Anthony Millington born was on August 19, 1953, to Lynette Lawrence and Altie Winfield Millington in Montego Bay, Jamaica. Although he did not complete a formal education, Joseph was a man of many talents. In his young adult years, he worked as a lifeguard on Doctor's Cove Beach in Jamaica. He enjoyed deep sea diving and fishing. He was a professional drummer. "Drummy" was his nickname because of his zeal for playing drums. He could always be heard playing them. As a musician he had opportunities to travel with a local Jamaican band, and he even played with the legend Bob Marley. He was also proficient in wood carving. He enjoyed driving and made a career out of it. He worked as a Juta Tour tourist bus driver for many years. In this role, he helped to showcase the beauty of Jamaica to many who visited. After he migrated to America, he worked most of his days as a truck driver until 2008 when he became disabled from a stroke.
Joseph was proud of his family - especially his children. He often encouraged them to look out for each other. One of his greatest desires was to see all his children in America. This came to fruition last year when his eldest daughter Stephanie migrated to America after a long immigration process. Joseph had a special love for his beautiful mother Lynette Lawrence who passed away 3 days after his death on August 31,2024. Mrs Lawrence was a beautiful soul to which all accomplishments of our family is owed. May her soul rest in peace.
Joseph gave his life to Jesus and was baptized on March 31, 2007. His favorite hymn was "Because He Lives." His favorite colors are red, green, gold and black because, according to him, " these are the colors of the rainbow." In his final days, Jospeh expressed "Let me go in peace, there is nothing you can do." He made it clear that he was ready to go Home and could not wait to sit under a mango tree in heaven and eat mangoes and naseberries with a big smile on his face.
Joseph is survived by his children: Stephanie Millington, Joseph Antony Millington Jr, Dr. Suzette Millington-Buffong and Dr. Grethel Millington. His grandchildren include Brianna Millington, Joshua Thompson, Joel Thompson and Christina Millington. His siblings: Cecelia Lawrence, Margarette Millington, Canute Kerr, Patricia Thorpe, Palone Parks, Horace Lawrence, Wilbert Lawrence, Herbert Lawrence and Nordeen Lawrence-Campbell.
