Joseph J. Montedoro ObituaryJoseph J. Montedoro, 94, of Longs, SC (formerly of Oakhurst, NJ) left this world on Tuesday, November 11, 2025 at Loris Nursing and Rehab in South Carolina. Joseph was born in Bradley Beach, NJ and lived most of his life in Oakhurst with his family. Joseph was a US Army Veteran, having served in the Korean War. Upon his return from Korea, Joseph worked in the family shoe repair shop in Bradley Beach as a third generation Cobbler. Joseph eventually took over his uncle's shoe repair shop in Allenhurst as owner of White Cat Shoe Repair.
A man of many talents, during this time Joseph was the leader of the house band at the Squire's Pub in West Long Branch. Joe Monte and the Pub Squires could be heard most weekends at weddings and events in Monmouth County. Joseph had an amazing voice and was accepted to Julliard's Opera program but declined to help in the family business. Joseph briefly hung up his apron to explore the restaurant life as co-owner of Tai Shing Garden Chinese Restaurant in Old Bridge. Joseph eventually came back to his roots and landed in Shrewsbury Cobbler Shop, taking over for Vito Marra, a cobbler he trained and mentored for many years. Joseph was also a volunteer firefighter and first aider in Allenhurst. In his later life, Joseph was proud to be "Santa" for the firehouse and remained a beloved figure in the Allenhurst Fire Department and First Aid Squad.
Joseph and his family were founding members of St. Anselm Roman Catholic Church in Wayside. Joseph was a proud veteran, a patriot, and an amazing family man.
Joseph is predeceased by the love of his life, Virginia Bacchi Montedoro; his parents, Mary and Ralph Montedoro and his siblings, Tony Montedoro, Rose Montedoro Guida, Josephine Montedoro Volante, Vincent Montedoro, and Ralph Montedoro.
Joseph is survived by his children, Renata Rasp and her husband Brian; Carla Ward and her husband Ralph; Christopher Montedoro and his partner, Frank Mahoney; and Michelle Faiella and her husband Jeffrey. Joseph loved his grandchildren, Kimberly Hanson-Ward (Emily), Justine Chen (Kai), Theodore Goodreau (Nicole), Jennifer Rasp, Justin Ward (Chelsea), Emily Rasp (Kourtney), Meghan Ward (Mochi), Allison Rasp-Johnson (Kevin), Matthew Faiella (Roxy), Joshua Faiella, and Michaela Faiella. Joseph also cherished his great-grandchildren, Mateo, Lucas, Kennedy, Jackson, Isla, Caleb, Ava and Carson.
Joseph will be sorely missed by all of his nieces and nephews, as well as all of the friends and family, old and new, he acquired in his lifetime.
