Joseph P. Muncy, 67, passed away unexpectedly in his home on Tuesday, January 6, 2026.
Born in Escanaba, Michigan on January 18, 1958, Joe was the son of Harold W. and Peggy J. (Cordray) Muncy and known to his siblings jokingly as “mom’s favorite”. He graduated from El Dorado High School with the class of 1976 and attended Butler County Community College.
In 1987 in New Mexico, Joe took as his wife Rebecca E. Kellogg and to this union came two children. He was employed in the asphalt industry and the positions moved the family around to 5 different states until settling in Warsaw, Indiana in the early 2000s. Joe lastly worked for Asphalt Materials and retired in February of 2021 as plant manager after 45 years.
If you thought of Joe, you may think big, grumpy and gentle giant. He never wanted praise for helping others, just did it silently behind the scenes. He was kind, funny and generous. Joe loved teaching others how to do things right, hopefully the first time. He didn’t like silence or sitting for too long as he always had to be busy doing something.
Joe loved going to music festivals and concerts. He did a lot of traveling and had many hours of dive time. He enjoyed long rides with his motorcycle group. Recently, Joe was getting into smoking meats and loved cooking for family and friends. Becky and he are members of Warsaw Community Church and enjoyed occasionally volunteering their time. He was a dedicated donor to Operation Smile Cleft Palate Charities.
He is dearly missed by his wife of 39 years, Becky, of Warsaw; their daughter, Samantha (fiancé Francisco Gonzalez) of Warsaw; grandchildren: Elijah, Giovanni and Solana; siblings: Steven (Rebecca) Muncy of Raleigh, NC, Dennis (Marcia) Muncy of Wichita, KS, John Muncy of West Memphis, AK and Mikelette (Bill) Sieber of West Chester, OH as well as many nieces and nephews.
Joe was preceded in death by his son David, his parents, his niece Brooke and sister-in-law Susan.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. on Tuesday, January 13, 2026 at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapels, 2290 Provident Court. Funeral services will follow at 4 p.m. in the chapel with Pastor Jeff Pfeifer officiating.
