Joseph M. Nelson of Greensboro, NC passed away peacefully at home on Friday, Dec 8 from a brief illness. Joe will be lovingly remembered by Sherrie, his wife and best friend of 46 years, parents: Joe & Norma Nelson; three brothers: Jeff, Jim, and John (Carla); three children: Sallie Martin (Jason), Travis (Chantel), and Carl; six grandchildren: Tyson Nelson, Gabrielle Nelson, Mirabella Grubb, Jaxen Grubb, Roman Nelson, & Gigi Lynn Grubb, plus many nieces & nephews. Joe was born in Joliet, IL and in 1976 moved to NC where he met his wife, Sherrie. Joe's career in the ready-mix concrete industry included operation of his own concrete finishing company, after which he developed Fireside Homes and built custom homes in the Greensboro area for over 20 years. Joe enjoyed fellowship with a non-denominational Christian church that met weekly in his home for many years. His life was centered around his faith and love for others which extended to neighbors and friends far and wide.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, 12/15 at Forbis & Dick N. Elm Chapel in Greensboro, NC. A Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday 12/16 at the same location with interment to follow at Westminster Gardens Cemetery.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the Hospice and the Bayada nursing staff for their care and compassion.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease Foundation or to AuthoraCare Hospice.
