Joseph Neuner of Chesapeake, Virginia, passed away peacefully in his home on July 4, 2025, surrounded by family and held in the prayers of a loving community.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Kathleen Neuner; his brother, Arthur Neuner; his grandchildren Samuel Eppinger, Haley Miller, Lexington Cole, Colten Cole, and Eric Miller; five great-grandchildren; stepson Daniel Miller; in-laws; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Marie Neuner, his stepson Eric Miller, and his daughter, Jennifer Eppinger-Cole, whom he loved deeply and remembered always.
Raised in Salem, Massachusetts, Joseph began his lifelong career as a boilermaker and welder at the Naval Shipyard in Los Angeles, California. It was there he met Kathleen, the love of his life. Together they eventually relocated to Virginia, where Joseph continued his work at the Naval Shipyard in Norfolk for over 30 years, completing a remarkable 50-year career in the shipbuilding industry.
Joseph and Kathleen made Chesapeake their home, surrounded by a close community of friends, neighbors, and SGI members who became family. He was a faithful member of the Soka Gakkai International Organization and group leader committed to world peace.
His life reflected dedication to his work, to his family, and to the people around him. He will be remembered for his steady presence, quiet strength, and the meaningful relationships he built throughout his life.
