Dr. Joseph Carl Nuara

NUARA, Dr. Joseph Carl, age 78, of Richmond, Virginia, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family, on Friday, July 8, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Carl Nuara; and his daughter, Amy Caroline Nuara. Joe is survived by his wife, Rita; and his four daughters, Diana Nuara Graziano and her husband, David, Becky Nuara Helms and her husband, Cory, Jeanne Maria Nuara and her partner, Andrew and Mary Louise "Weezie" Nuara and her wife, Courtney. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Sophia and Sam Graziano and Eddie and Lucy Helms; and his sister, Virginia Nuara Hudert.

Joe was born on July 21, 1943, and grew up on Libbie Avenue next to his father's barber shop in Richmond, Virginia. He was a proud graduate of Benedictine High School and the University of Richmond. He later attended the Medical College of Virginia and earned board certifications in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease, practicing Interventional Cardiology in the Richmond area for more than 40 years. Joe honorably served in the United States Navy from 1971 to 1973 as a General Medical Officer during the Vietnam War.

Joe loved spending time on the water at his homes on the Rappahannock River and in Fort Myers, Florida. He had a passion for boating and duck hunting and was happiest spending time with his family and friends. He will be remembered for his sound advice, his classic dad jokes and puns, and his famous meatballs.

Visitation with family and friends will take place at Bliley's Funeral Home on Augusta Avenue on Monday, July 11, 2022, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Entombment in the mausoleum in Hollywood Cemetery will take place at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 12, 2022, followed by a reception to celebrate his life at the Commonwealth Club from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.
