Joseph "Joe" Patrick Nuzzo, Sr., 88, of Westminster, peacefully passed away surrounded by his family on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at Carroll Hospital Center.
Born March 16, 1936, in Staten Island, NY, he was the son of the late Joseph Patrick and Leonora (Marotta) Nuzzo. He was the loving husband of Margaret Ann Nuzzo, his wife of 60 years. A devout Catholic, he looked forward to being reunited with his parents and meeting the Blessed Mother in his new life in the Kingdom of Heaven.
A veteran of the US Navy, Joe was a retired NYC firefighter and devoted many years to his profession before moving and establishing his family in the Carroll County area. He was a lifetime real estate investor and owner of Michael Septic Service since 1988.
Joe was exceptionally skilled with his hands, always building or repairing things for anyone in need. He enjoyed spending winters in Florida, summers on the lake, but above all, Joe cherished the time spent with his family and friends. He had the ability to connect with strangers, making friends wherever he went; babies, children, and animals adored him. Joe will be remembered for his deep love of life and people, and his generous spirit.
Surviving in addition to his wife are children Joseph P. Nuzzo, Jr and wife Donna of Westminster, James M. Nuzzo and wife Joy of Finksburg, and Lenore M. Kornreich and husband Bryan of Winchester, VA, grandchildren Katie, John, Mariana, Rena, Cecelia, Joseph, and Judy Marie, siblings Francie Nigro of Staten Island, NY, and identical twin brother Michael A. Nuzzo of New Jersey, many nieces, nephews, and extended loving family members.
He was preceded in death by siblings Josephine Marazzo, Gene Nuzzo, Caroline Barracato, and Margie Chirco.
The family will welcome friends on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8pm, with rosary prayers at 7pm at Pritts Funeral Home and Chapel, 412 Washington Road, Westminster. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 25, 2024, at 10am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 65 Sacred Heart Lane, Glyndon, MD. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Finksburg.
Flowers and/or memorial contributions are equally welcome, and donations can be made in his memory to Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glyndon or to The Special Olympics of Carroll County, 546 Willow Avenue, Westminster MD.

Mr. Joe was an abundantly kind and friendly man who obviously had great faith in the Lord and shared it with others. He always greeted us with a smile and a hug at church. When I was battling cancer many years ago, Mr. Joe loaned me a beautiful framed picture of the Blessed Mother to keep with me as I underwent chemotherapy and surgeries. He said she would watch over me. I believe it had belonged to his mother, and I was honored that he so generously shared it with me to help me on my cancer journey. When I returned it to him many months later, he let me know that he had been praying for me and that he knew I would be okay because the Blessed Mother had helped me through it all. Tom and I and our two sons will always have a special place in our hearts for Mr. Joe. He was one of the good guys. I know he is in glory with the Lord now and smiling with the angels. We offer our deep sympathy to his entire family as they grieve the loss of such a special man. Most sincerely, Jeanne and Tom Cossentino and Sons
