Joseph C. Orlando, M.D, devoted husband, Dad, "PopPop," and doctor was born on May 22, 1940 in Reading Pennsylvania. He dearly loved his close-knit family, mother, father, sisters, and brother growing up on Orlando Avenue in Hamilton, Baltimore, Maryland. He attended St. Dominic for grade school and two years of high school at the former St. Charles Seminary in Catonsville, MD. He graduated from Loyola High School in 1958. He then attended Loyola College in Baltimore, majoring in Biology. While there, he competed on their Diving Team and began their newspaper, graduating in 1962. He and Dolores were married a year later on June 8, 1963. He went on to graduate from the University of Maryland School of Medicine, class of 1967 and completed his Plastic Surgery training at The New York Hospital Cornell Medical Center. He has been a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon practicing in the greater Baltimore area since then, principally at The Good Samaritan Hospital where he was Chief of the Division of Plastic Surgery and the Medical Director of the Hyperbaric Medicine and Wound Healing Center. He has authored or co-authored about 20 papers. He was an Assistant Professor in Plastic Surgery at the Johns Hopkins Hospital.
Joe seamlessly integrated his professional, medical endeavors, with his precious faith. He was active in developing the Catholic Men's Fellowship in 2012. He described this union with his personal motto, "To heal the body is to heal the soul."
His great pride and joy was his family, his beloved wife of 62 years, Dolores, their four children, John Crisci Orlando, Therese D. Cooley (Roger), Justin M. Orlando (Dawn-Marie) and the late Joseph A. Orlando. He is also survived by his ten grandchildren Jacob Cooley (Hannah), Daniel Cooley (Samantha), Rachel Mitchell (Eben), Benjamin Cooley, Ruthie Cooley, Joshua Orlando, Patrick Orlando,Justin D. Orlando, Sean Orlando and Megan Orlando and four great-grandchildren, Evie Mitchell, Rose Cooley, Joseph Cooley and Camden Cooley. Joe is the brother of Julie Baker, Evelyn Huber (Charles), John Orlando (Carol) and the late Nina Hanle.
He thoroughly enjoyed Christmas time when he dressed up as Santa Claus and visited his grandchildren and neighbor's children, handing out gifts and treats. His kindness and generosity knew no bounds.
Joe passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday morning, June 20, 2025, shortly after his 85th birthday. He has left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him. We are grateful to Jesus Christ for Joe's life and legacy, and we together recall countless memories, honor his life, and celebrate the impact he has made on our lives.
The family will receive friends at the family owned Ruck Towson Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 York Road (Beltway exit 26) on Friday, June 27, 2025, from 2PM-4PM and 6PM-8PM. I have such fond memories of Joe and Delores. He was such a loving, kind, and generous person and I´m so glad he was part of our family.

Joe was a not only a wonderful physician but a long time friend who we have known for over 40 years.

When I was in college, a dog bit my hand , several days before a music job I had booked for New Years Eve.
Joe actually took the time on a Saturday to meet me at his office and patch my hand up so I could still play guitar.

That´s the kind of person Joe was.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Dolores and the Orlando family.

Love,
Steve and Leigh Nodar
