Joseph Arthur Platt, age 89, of Wyoming, Michigan, passed away Sunday, August 25, 2024. He was born January 8, 1935, in Hastings, MI, to the late Floyd and Hazel (Wampo) Platt. Joe enlisted and proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. On June 28, 1968, Joe married the love of his life, Joyce Elaine Haggerty in Grand Rapids, MI. Joe worked many years as a cook at the local VA in Grand Rapids. In his later years he enjoyed doing cross word puzzles and most of all spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Joyce; son, Jim Platt; daughter, Cindy Owens; grandchildren, Aidan Platt, Deanna Cavalier, Montana Owens, and Zachary Tiffany; brother, Jim Platt; sister-in-law, Karen (Bruce) Bigelow; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Joe Platt; sister, Marian Hunkins; brothers, Pat and Charlie McCormick; brother-in-law, Ken Haggerty; and sister-in-law, Jan Binns.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society or the Multiple Sclerosis Association of America. (Click the links below to donate online)
A graveside service will take place on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Rosedale Memorial Park Cemetery, 50 Lake Michigan Dr, Walker, MI, 49544, with military honors rendered by the United States Marine Corps and Kent County Veterans Honor Guard.
