Joseph A. Roper Jr.

Joseph A. "Sonny" Roper, Jr., of Plymouth, formerly of Arlington, died on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at 91 years old. He was the devoted husband of 61 years to Carolyn V. (Smith) Roper. Son of the late Joseph A. and K. Marion (Bonin) Roper. Loving father of Jeanne, Laura, Joseph, Paul (Kathleen), Carolyn, Nancy (Peter), and Amy (Gregg). Papa of Kelsey (Greg), Savannah (Michael), Callie, Shay, Demetrios, Jadyn, Alexis, Kagan, Sophia, Kyle, Dylan, and Evan. Great grandfather of Owen.
An Arlington High School class of 1950 graduate, he went on to serve his country in the United States Air Force from 1952-1956. Following his honorable discharge from the military he began his career with the New England Telephone Company, until he retired in 1992. He married the love of his life in 1962. Together they welcomed 7 children, 12 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild. Joseph spent summers with his family down on White Horse Beach. Anyone that knew him loved him. He was a big storyteller about his time spent in French Morocco while serving in the Air Force.
A visitation will take place at the Cartmell-Davis Life Celebration Funeral Home, 619 State Rd. Plymouth (Manomet), on Tuesday, April 9th, from 9:00 am till 10:45 am. Followed by a Mass of Christian burial at St. Bonaventure's Church, Plymouth (Manomet), at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
