Linda Anita Roper, age 85, of
Fairfield Bay, Arkansas, went to be with her Lord and Savior on February 5, 2026. She was born on October 5, 1940 to Herman Leslie Chenault and Iva Pearl (Anderson) Chenault in
Dallas, Texas.
Linda was raised in Rowlett, Texas and attended school in Rowlett through the 8th grade. She then attended Rockwall High School and graduated in 1959. Some of Linda's classmates were lifelong, cherished friends who shared the joy of yearly reunions throughout her life. After high school, she attended TCU in Fort Worth and completed her Bachelors and Masters at East Texas State in
Commerce, TX.
On December 29, 1962, Linda married her beloved husband Joe Roper in Durant, Oklahoma, beginning a beautiful journey of 63 years together. Their life began in the dorms at East Texas while finishing school before eventually moving to Texarkana. Linda started working as an elementary school and music teacher, teaching at multiple schools throughout her career including Pleasant Grove, Hallsville, Red Lick and Lefors.
Music was the heartbeat of Linda's life. She had some amazing musical talents. She was an incredible vocalist and began playing the piano her Daddy bought her at a very young age. Linda was devoted to singing and playing the piano her entire life, dedicating her gifts to the Church. She had multiple roles in the Church including being a Choir Director, Vocalist and Pianist. Her creative spirit also extended to the stage, where she directed many musical productions and one-act plays.
In 1983, Linda decided to pursue a different career as an entrepreneur, owning The Owl's Perch florist in
Hooks, TX for seven years. The business became highly successful and eventually expanded to manage all aspects of wedding ceremonies. As the wedding coordinator, Linda famously said that besides The Owl's Perch, the only other thing a couple needs is a minister.
Linda was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Louise and her parents Herman Leslie and Iva Pearl Chenault.
She is survived by the following family members, who will miss her greatly; her husband Joe Roper, her son Michael (Elvie) Roper, her daughter Rhonda (Chad) Wilcox, and her grandchildren Jorden (Greg) Kummer, Joshua (Hedieh) Roper, Kylara, Paul and Cassy Roper, her nieces and nephews: Marinell (John) Tomlinson, Debbi Roper, Montie (Matt) Verett, Christi (Neal) Johnson, Jack Roper, Robbie (Diane) Roper and Billy (Melinda) Roper, along with her beloved cousins Sam Chenault and Robert Shugart.
