Joseph B. Rose III

Joseph B. Rose III, a beloved lifelong Clevelander, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born on July 14, 1945, in Cleveland, Ohio, Joseph lived a life dedicated to his family, his profession, and his community.

A proud graduate of Cathedral Latin High School in 1963, Joseph went on to earn his Bachelor of Arts degree from Case Western Reserve University. He furthered his education by obtaining his Juris Doctorate from the same institution, establishing a successful career as a criminal defense attorney for over 55 years. His expertise and dedication in the legal field made a lasting impact on many lives in the community.

Joseph was not only known for his professional accomplishments, but also for his passions outside the courtroom. He cherished moments spent golfing with friends and family, rooting for Cleveland and collegiate sports teams, and fishing with his son and friends. An avid reader, Joseph found joy in the written word, which fed his inquisitive mind and enriched his life.

He deeply loved his children, J.D. Rose (Antonina), and Kaitlin Rose (J.R. Klonk), who carry his legacy forward. Joseph is also survived by his beloved siblings, Margaret Christopher (David), Kathleen Justinak (Jeff), and James; his sister-in-law, Cathy Rose; and his grand dogs, Luca and Biggs, and the late Oscar. He is preceded in death by his cherished parents, Joseph and Adelyn (nee Gareau) Rose; and his beloved brothers, Timothy and Thomas.

A private memorial service will be held to honor Joseph's life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made in his honor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Joseph B. Rose III will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his commitment to justice, and his zest for life. His spirit will continue to influence those who had the privilege to know him.
