Joseph Vern Russell, Sr., affectionately known as "Mr. Joe," was born on September 27, 1947, and entered eternal rest on August 27, 2025. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose presence touched many lives.

Born in Columbus, Ohio, and later making his home in Boston, Massachusetts, Joe dedicated his career to serving others through his work as a Hospital Administrator for South Shore Hospital. Beyond his profession, he was a man of passion and spirit-he loved music, dancing, and engaging in meaningful conversations that left a lasting impression on those around him.

Joe was preceded in death by his grandparents Isaac & Clifton Weatherly; parents Hammond Sr. & Ora Mae Russell; his brother Hammond Russell Jr.; and his son-in-law Lorenzo Brown, sisters Shirley Steven, Mattie Randell, Mary Russell, Cleanteria Russell, Arenita Bridges, Ida Gail, Linda Lee, Saundra Jones, Andrea Franks, and Gail Starnes.

He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Alfreda Russell; his sons Joseph Vern Russell Jr., Antonio Conners, and Travis Russell; his daughters Ledia Brown and Demetria Russell. He is also survived by his sister Bertha Russell; brothers-in-law: Donald, Claude and Derek, seven grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren; two special friends, Sharon Triplett and Shelia Conners; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends in both Columbus, Ohio and Louisville, Kentucky.

Joe's warmth, humor, and love of life will forever be remembered by all who had the honor of knowing him.
