Born in Riverhead, NY on September 11, 1931, he was the son of the late Felix J. and Mary F. (Grodski) Rutkowski. Joe came to Middletown, DE in 1956 to farm potatoes. He moved to upstate New York, Richfield Springs in 1965 to continue farming. Joe started with DeLia Construction Co. building bridges and roads in the Adirondacks in 1973. He relocated back to Delaware and was hired by Quail Run Nurseries as a Manager in 1977 until his retirement in 1995.
Joe filled his time golfing, gardening, clamming, and playing cards with friends. He and his wife, Anne, enjoyed wintering in N. Fort Myers, FL and summering in White House Beach on the Rehoboth Bay.
In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Anne E. (Zaweski) Rutkowski, in August of 1997. He is survived by his children, Cindy, Joe, and Teresa; 7 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 9 am until 10:30 am on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 275 East Main Street, Middletown, DE. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 am, following the visitation, at St. Joseph Parish, 319 East Main Street, Middletown, DE. Interment will follow in Old Bohemia Cemetery, 455 Church Road, Warwick, MD.

Sorry to hear about Joe. He was kind friendly & a gentleman with a great smile. We remember him in Fountainview. He was loving kind & helpful to his friend Joann Felske. We enjoyed their friendship & have nice memories of them together in FL. Rest in peace Joe Kathy & Dave Orsi
