Joseph F. Sacramento

Lifelong resident of North Braddock, age 98, returned home to his Lord and Savior on Monday, August 9, 2021.

Beloved husband of the late Catherine "Teen" (Pekarcik) Sacramento.

Loving father of Deanna (the late Joseph) Strednak of Forest Hills.

Dear grandfather of Joseph (Mary) Strednak of North Braddock and Debbie (Robert) Davis of Churchill.

Adored Pap of Joseph and Angela Strednak, and Gina and A.J. Davis.

Dear brother of Sara Simone and Frank (Charlotte) Sacramento. Preceded in death by his siblings, Tony and Neal Sacramento.

Also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Joseph F. Sacramento, affectionately known by many as "Pap", "JoJo" and "Uncle Joe", was born in his hometown of Braddock on September 21, 1922. He forever took great pride of being born into a family of Italian immigrants, who strived to provide nothing but the best for he and his siblings. The memories of growing up in Braddock remained a constant joy throughout his life. Whether it was hanging out on the streets with family and friends or taking a streetcar to Kennywood to pay 10 cents to ride all day, he was always sure to create a lasting memory in whatever he was doing.

Joe proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After the service, he began to work at the Westinghouse Plant in East Pittsburgh. Joe was employed by Westinghouse as a truck driver and personal driver to the plant President for 42 years before retiring. In the mid 1950's, he opened T&J's Pizza on Woodlawn Avenue in Braddock, where he worked for years alongside his wife and brothers. Later in life, Joe was employed by the Ardmore Roller Rink as a skate guard. Joe was also a licensed barber and would often lend help to his brother-in-law, Tom Pekarcik, styling hair in North Braddock.

Many knew Joe as "Hoagie Joe" for his weekly leisure activity of preparing Italian hoagies in the basement of his home, loading them into his blue Plymouth Horizon, and delivering them for sale to auto shops, doctors' offices, and stores surrounding the area. Over the years, Joe truly cherished the friendships he gained by meeting all of those people.

Later in life, Joe enjoyed going to lunch each week with the family members friends that he grew up with, spending mornings at Dunkin' Donuts, and stopping into Norms Garage to chat about good times. He also enjoyed taking trips around town on his motorcycle until just a few years back.

Joe was a true believer in his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was a devout member and volunteer usher at First Evangelical Free Church in McKeesport.

Most of all, Joe treasured the role of patriarch to his family. He would love nothing more than when his family was gathered together for holidays, birthdays, or spending a hot summer day by the pool. One of his favorite phrases was, "My Gang is All Here!"

Joe will be remembered eternally for his joyous, charismatic, and caring personality and the loving warmth he spread to everyone around him.

Friends are welcome Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. and Thursday from 2-8 p.m. at Patrick T. Lanigan Funeral Home & Crematory; 1111 Monroeville Ave.; Turtle Creek, PA 15145; (412) 823-9350, where a Funeral Service will be held Friday at 11:30 a.m.

Joe will be laid to rest with Military Honors in Penn Lincoln Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made in Joe's name to First Evangelical Free Church, 4001 University Dr., McKeesport, PA 15132.
