I’m Joe’s niece from Long Island. I have fond memories of my Uncle Joey and my mom Rose, shucking and eating long Island clams in my mom’s kitchen. They were in 7th heaven as they ate and laughed together. Later we all would have a delicious meal of spaghetti with clam sauce from the clams that they didn't stuff themselves with.
My Uncle Joey also was intrigued with the cicadas of Long Island and loved the soothing sounds they made in the summer.
I also remember him playing his harmonica after many family meals. Once while I was conversing with him on in the phone he played a very sad song after his wife, Val passed away, it was quite heart wrenching.
