Joseph Richard "Rick" Schaner, passed away unexpectedly August 26, 2024. He was born August 15, 1952, in Hart, the son of Joseph Harold and Louise (Alvesteffer) Schaner.
Rick is survived by: his loving wife, Paula Schaner; parents, Joseph Harold and Louise (Alvesteffer) Schaner, daughters, Monica Schaner, and Mary (David Ballinger) Cater; sons, Marc Schaner, Rich Cater and Donovan (Becky Johnson) Cater; siblings, Connie (Jim) Siren, Marilyn (Gary) Cowell, Kevin Schaner, Judy Schaner, Duane Schaner, and Ron (Gina) Schaner; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and extended family, including the many daycare children that knew him as Mr. Rick.
Rick was preceded in death by: his grandparents, Joseph Michael and Dorothy Schaner, and Joseph and Florence Alvesteffer; and grandson, Christopher Schaner.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM, Saturday, September 7, 2024, at St, Joseph Catholic Church, 2380 West Jackson Road, Hart, MI 49420, with Fr. Phillip Sliwinski presiding. Visitation will be held one hour prior to mass, with a luncheon immediately following in the parish hall.
Harris Funeral Home, in Shelby, is in charge of arrangements.
