Joseph Wayne Scoggins, 70, of Milan passed away at 8 a.m., Monday, September 11, 2023 at his home. He was born in Sylcouga, Alabama on February 18, 1953, the son of John and Willene Adams Scoggins. He was married to Linda Kemker on April 1, 1972 and his wife of 52 years survives. Other survivors include three sons Steven (Christy) Scoggins and Randy Scoggins both of Versailles, and Robert (Cortney) Scoggins of Milan; grandchildren Stephanie, DJ, Eric, Nathan, Scott, Abby, and Emily Scoggins, Andrew McCrory, and Morgan Clark; two great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews; "bonus" children Jim and Cathy Betz of Milan, Richard and Heather Block and Chris and Ai Brown all of Versailles, Mike and Amber Wilhoit of Osgood, and Jason Bess of Napoleon. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers John, Robert, and Terry, and his sister Pat. Joe spent his early years walking and later grooming race horses at Louisville, Latonia, Chicago, Hot Springs, Arkansas as well as other tracks around the country. He retired from his working career in 2011 from Indiana Precision Tooling in Dillsboro where he worked as a machinist. Joe loved his grandchildren and enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and following the Reds and the Dallas Cowboys. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 15 at 11a.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Harris Long officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday from 6p.m. to 8p.m. Memorials may be given to the Margaret Mary Community Hospital Cancer Center or Our Hospice in care of the funeral home.
