Joseph “Ross” Scott, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, peacefully entered into eternal rest on August 15, 2025. He was born to the late Norman Lee and Jewel Hughes Scott on September 15, 1955. He graduated from Armstrong University with a degree in respiratory therapy. He ended his respiratory therapy career as head of the respiratory department at Screven County Hospital. He also worked on the first certified EMS crew in Screven County. He went on to join the Iron Workers Local 709 in 1984. He worked there until his retirement in 2018. He loved going hunting and fishing, especially with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his mother-in-law, Glenda Godbee. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Lori Godbee Scott; daughters Mary Helen Bozard (Alan) and Allison Scott Butler (Caleb); Grandchildren Brody Ondriezek, Berklee Bozard, Jessie Kate Butler, and Carsyn Butler; Sisters Julie Scott Thompson (Robert) and Laura Scott Edenfield (Wendell); Brother Norman Micheal “Mike” Scott (Yvonne); Father in Law John “Melbourne” Godbee (Brenda); Sister in Laws Lisa Godbee Harper (Bill), Melinda Godbee Sutton (Russ); Brother in Law John Glenn Godbee (Patti); many nieces and a nephew; a son he said he never had, Chris Hutson (Erica) and their children; a lifelong best friend, Dr. David Bass.
Pallbearers Jamie Bass, Chris Hutson, Rocky Scott, Mike Boyd, Whitley Waters, and Kirk Joiner.
Honorary pallbearers include members of Local 709, Greg Helmy and all employees of Airco Industrial, Mr. Sonny Roberts, Mrs. Carolyn Johnson, Mr. James Johnson, Mr. Stan Weaver Jr., Mr. Lynn Godbee, Mrs. Noonie Hodges, Mr. Lenward McMillan, Mr. Curtis Peterson, Mr. John Godbee, Mr. John Mills IV, Mrs. Amber Kent, Mr. Keith Gonya, Mr. Joe Price Williams, Mr. Eric Hutson, Mr. Ricky Lewis and Mr. Hermann Adamson.
Family will receive guests at the Thompson Strickland Waters, Joiner Anderson Chapel on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, from 10:30 am - 12:00 noon.
Services will be in the chapel following the visitation at 12:00 p.m.
Officiating: Pastor Pete Wall and Pastor Wendell Edenfield
Pianist: Charlotte Lambert
Interment will be at the Screven County Memorial Cemetery in Sylvania, Georgia
