Joseph Serventi Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Chas. Verheyden, Inc. Funeral Home & Cremation Service - Grosse Pointe on Feb. 4, 2024.
Joseph Serventi Sr., a cherished soul known for his loving nature, kindness, and generosity, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2024, at the age of 59 in Grosse Pointe, Michigan. Born on September 25, 1964, in Detroit, Michigan to Richard and Pietrina Serventi (nee: Viviano). Joseph's radiant smile and warm heart touched countless lives.
Joe is survived by his beloved wife Victoria, and his three beautiful children, Ariana (Joseph) Diehl, Joseph Serventi Jr., and Christa Serventi. He was a treasured son to his mother Pietrina, and a respected son-in-law to Mark and Pauline Wise and Victor and Linnet Walla, niece Erin Holms and nephew John Fleming. Joe was preceded in death by his father Richard, and his sister Mary Fleming. His absence will leave an irreplaceable void in the hearts of his family and all who knew him.
For over 30 years, Joe was a respected restaurateur in the Grosse Pointe area, where he created a welcoming atmosphere for the community. His work ethic and dedication to his craft were evident in the thriving business he built at Andiamo Trattoria, and later on Trattoria Serventi, and the loyal clientele he developed there. Joe's last job was the manager at Flyleaf, which he absolutely loved!
Beyond his professional endeavors, Joe was a passionate sports enthusiast. He was a fervent Michigan State fan and an avid Pittsburgh Steelers supporter, embodying the true spirit of a sports fan with his unwavering loyalty and enthusiasm. His love for the game was matched by his skill as a championship bowler at the Detroit Athletic Club, where he was a longtime member. The golf courses also knew Joe well, as he loved to go golfing with his friends.
Joe's life was a testament to his values of family, friendship, and community. He was a loving husband to Victoria, cherishing every moment they shared and building a life together that was full of love, laughter, and joy. As a father, he beamed with pride for Ariana, Joseph Jr., and Christa, always supporting their dreams and celebrating their achievements with the joy that only a father can know.
His home was a haven of warmth, often filled with the joyful barks of his beloved dogs, Zoe and Scout, who were additional members of the Serventi family. Joe's presence made every room brighter, and his love for his family was the cornerstone of his life.
Joe's legacy is one of love and kindness, of generosity and joy. He lived his life fully, embracing each day with a zest that was contagious to all who had the privilege of crossing his path. Joe's devout Catholic faith was something that he took very seriously and it was the beacon of light that guided him throughout his entire life. His memory will be cherished and kept alive in the stories told, the laughter shared, and the lives he touched.
Visitation for Joe will take place Tuesday, February 6th from 4:00-8:00pm, with a rosary service at 6:30pm at Chas. Verheyden, Inc., 16300 Mack Ave., Grosse Pointe Park. Visitation continues Wednesday February 7th from 9:30am until the start of the funeral Mass at 10:00am at Old St. Mary's Catholic Church, 646 Monroe St., Detroit. Entombment follows at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Memorial donations are appreciated to The Motor City Mitten Mission, 24623 Harper Ave., St. Clair Shores, MI 48080 or the St. Vincent de Paul Society Detroit, 3000 Gratiot Ave., Detroit MI 48207.

I was a lucky man to have known Joe for so many years . We met at the restaurant and then he joined the DAC where we later bowled for 12 years together. Joe was like a brother and taught me many life lessons even so while he was sick . He told me that most of the small things you worry about aren´t that important in the end , and you should enjoy life to the fullest.
I believe Joe did this most of his life .
I´m deeply sorry for Victoria and the family´s loss as there will never be another like him .
Rest easy my brother and keep shining down on us with that warm welcoming smile that you had !
Love your brother
Mark

A fond memory is when Joe showed up with an enormous amount of food for our family when my loving brother in law Mike Webb passed away at the same age as we lost Joe...just one of many kind remembrance´s that I recall...to many others to be thankful for

I worked for Joe first at Andiamo 14 mile and then for many years at Mack. I remember all the lives he touched through the years and how he was always gracious to his guests as well as the many stories he liked to share with friends. To Victoria, Andrea, Joseph, and Kristen, words cannot express my deepest symphony. Always renumber your memories of him. I miss you and pray for you. Kerrie Quinlan
