Joseph Smith, 90, of Wethersfield, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2026, surrounded by his family. Born on June 20, 1935, he was the son of the late Cyril and Helen Smith of Newington. Joseph graduated from Weaver High School. He attended the University of Hartford, where he earned his Bachelor's degree in Education. He later earned his Master's degree in Education from the University of Hartford. He began his career as a middle school teacher in Wethersfield before finishing his career at the Institute of Living. Joseph was predeceased by his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Patricia; he is survived by his daughter, Susan Smith of Wethersfield; his son, David Smith (Julie) of Georgia; and his daughter, Ellen Smith Marshall (Scott) of Wethersfield. He was also predeceased by his sister, Lowry, and his brother, Cyril. Joseph is also survived by his brother-in-law, Ralph Vignati (Linda). Grandpa will be forever missed by his five adoring grandchildren: Matthew Marshall of D.C., Delaney Marshall of Charlotte, NC, Braden Smith, Callie Smith, and Gavin Smith, all of Georgia. He will also be missed by several nieces and nephews. Joseph was fortunate to have several dear friends, especially Lou Gerundo, Dave Smith, and Mary Rose Ebner, for whose friendship and many shared lunches he was deeply grateful. In his retirement, nothing gave him more pleasure than the success of his children and grandchildren, with whom he was fortunate to share the wonders of the world through many travels together. Joseph will be dearly missed by anyone who knew him. Friends and family may call on the Smith family on Sunday, February 15, 2026 from 3:00pm to 5:00pm at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Road, Wethersfield.
