Joseph V. Spanner Jr.

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we share the passing of Joseph V. Spanner, Jr., 77, of New Harmony, Indiana, on Thursday, July 4, 2024, at Deaconess Midtown Hospital.
Joe was born in Bellaire, Ohio, on November 3, 1946, to the late Jane L. (Hodskins) and Joseph V. Spanner, Sr. We will forever be grateful that he was able to live his life to the fullest every day. He still worked a full-time job that he enjoyed as a manager at American Scale, came home to his wife of 53 years, and spoke to his dearest of family and friends daily. Joe never met a stranger and enjoyed sharing his knowledge and talent of cars with fellow enthusiasts. He never hesitated to offer help in any way. Joe will always be remembered for his lifelong passion for drag racing. This hobby influenced his family far beyond his imagination into building the Spanner Wrobel Will racing family of 5 drag cars and a Jr Dragster. Our memories of countless Saturday nights racing together will be treasures that we will forever carry in our hearts. We will miss his smile, his laugh, his stories, but most importantly, seeing his love and sense of pride for his 3 kids and 8 grandkids.
Joe is survived by his wife, Doris Spanner; son, Mike Spanner (Mary) of Evansville, IN; twin daughters, Stephanie Wrobel (Mike) of Wadesville, IN and Shelley Will (Tim) of Wadesville, IN; brothers, Jerry Spanner, Larry Spanner, Rick Spanner, and Randy Spanner; sister, Tammy Spanner; grandchildren, Josiah, Leah, Callie, and Maggie Spanner; Brett and Blake Wrobel; and Claire and Ryan Will.
A celebration of Joe's life will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Ave., Evansville, IN, 47711, with Pastor Doug Horner officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Friends may visit from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Monday, July 8, 2024, at Browning Funeral Home and again from 9:00 am until service time on Tuesday.
