Joseph A. Spatafore

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joseph "Joe" Alfred Spatafore, who passed away at the age of 89, on October 09, 2024 in his daughter's home surrounded by family.
Born on March 25, 1935 in Clarksburg, WV, Joe was the eldest son of Regina and Frank Spatafore. Joe moved to the Detroit area at a young age and grew up with a deep love for fishing, boating, playing golf, watching sports, cooking, and the music of Italian musicians, such as Andrea Bocelli. Joe went on to join the Army where he was a paratrooper in the Korean War. After serving his country, Joe became a hairdresser and owner of a renowned salon in the greater Detroit area. His love for the outdoors continued well into his adult years, as he became a pilot and a boat captain. Education became important to Joe after becoming a Papa; despite his successful career, he went back to school to obtain his high school diploma. Joe retired in Michigan's UP, where he enjoyed quality time with his dogs, horses, and goats before eventually moving to Ohio. He spent his last 9 years sharing time between Waterford and Chagrin Falls making unforgettable memories with his family.
A beloved brother, husband, dad, uncle, papa, and friend, Joe touched the lives of many. He shared his wit, passion, laughter, and love with those lucky enough to know him.
Joe is survived by Sharon; children, Joe (Tracie) and Kim (Toby); grandchildren, Stephanie (Dan), Joey (Nour), Zach (Cayley), Josh (Courtney), and Daniel; great-grandchildren, Violet and Lily; devoted sister and best friend, Esther (Jim [late]) and brother, Frank (Joanna [late], Loretta). He will also be dearly missed by countless family and friends including his honorary daughter, Julie (Kevin), Dr. Allen Schrader, and nurse, Nicole.
Preceded in death by parents, Regina and Frank; stepmother, Mary; siblings, Donald, Robert, and Louis; and honorary daughter, Nicole Rivard.
A small and private celebration of life to honor Joe will be held for family and close friends in Waterford, MI on Sunday, November 03, 2024. Virtual invitation to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Joe's favorite charity, St. Jude's Children Hospital, in his memory.
We will forever cherish the memories of Joe and the impact he made on our lives. He will remain in our hearts always.
