Catherine Cannata Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Vicchiarelli Funeral Home - Lyndhurst on Feb. 10, 2026.
It is with hearts full of love and sadness that we would like to inform you that our mother, Catherine M. Cannata, 90, of Highland Heights, Ohio, passed away peacefully on February 9th, 2026. Kay, as she was known to many, was born in 1935 to Mary and Vito Abate (both deceased). She is the youngest of 4 and was preceded in death by Joe Abate (Lil), John Abate (Angie) and Anna Losco.

Kay was dedicated to her husband Joseph Cannata (deceased) for 62 years. Her love for him continued past his death and she is in heaven with him now dancing up a storm and making him his favorite dishes. The two of them loved to travel and enjoyed themselves wherever they ended up. When the two of them danced it was magical and they could clear a dance floor.

Mom and dad were blessed with three children, Cindy Seebauer (Pete), Kathleen C. Hanna (Chris) and Gina (Scott Patterson). She taught her daughters to be independent and was very proud of each of them for so many reasons. Mom was blessed with 5 incredible grandchildren, Joe Hanna, Lisa Netzly (Josiah), Savannah Patterson, Xavier Patterson, and Gavin Patterson and was so very proud of them also. Her love for them was very evident in every conversation she had. Ask about her daughters or grandchildren and her face would light up like Times Square.

Mom also had many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends all of whom she loved dearly.

Mom and Dad had a very successful business together. Mom was also an amazing cook and baker. She would say "if you leave the table hungry it was your own fault". The food would flow from her hands and kitchen in what seemed like an effortless and continual manner. The food was beyond delicious and it was hard not to overeat because it was so good. Then the desserts, yes many desserts, were put on the table and you would have to find more room for just one more bite.

Our mother's smile and laughter could make the sun shine. You could hear it in her voice even if you were on the phone and you could feel its warmth. She was so very generous, always giving people gifts for occasions and chocolate because she could.

She was so very grateful to everyone who helped her especially the aids at Vitalia and the hospice team, to which we as a family are very indebted.

Mom loved a good party and her family would like you to join us in celebrating a life well lived. Mass of Christian Burial Saturday February 14, 2026 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Rosary Church. We will receive friends at church at 9:30 a.m. until mass begins at 10:30 a.m. Entombment at Lake View Cemetery following with luncheon afterwards.

In lieu of flowers, mom and her family request donations to St. Jude's Children's Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105 or Hospice of the Western Reserve PO Box 72700, Cleveland, OH 44192.

We thank all of you for your continued love, support and prayers. It means more to us than we can express.

We are so sorry to hear of Kay´s passing. Our condo was right next to your mom and dad´s condo in Falling Waters. We had so many fond memories of your parents that we will always treasure. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. Mark and Kathy Murphy.

Kay and Joe were such wonderful people. We were renters at Falling Waters in Florida and they treated us like their best friends. Joe was one of a kind. On the golf course he was unique to say the least. Kay kept her condo looking like an Italian palace. Rest in Peace my friends.

I´m so so sorry when I heard this today. I loved your mom and dad from the day I met them. We were neighbors in Florida and I always said to your mom I would love to be just like here. She had so much energy and enthusiasm. I would love our long conversations that we had after your dad passed. I´m sure she´s very happy to be back with her husband. She will be dearly missed.
