Joseph Travis Stanley Jr., lovingly known as Jody and Papa Joe, was called home to the Lord on September 17, 2025, at the age of 59, after battling health issues. Born in West Palm Beach, Florida on March 10, 1966, and raised in Jacksonville, Jody lived a vibrant life that left an unforgettable mark on all who knew him.
A graduate of Forrest High School, Jody went on to serve proudly in the United States Navy as an Underwater Fire Control System Sonar Technician (STGSN) aboard Navy submarines. Following his military service, he built a successful career as a professional food salesman, traveling and working throughout Florida and Georgia.
In his personal life, Jody shared his journey with his beloved wife, Maria Dolores Baribe Campos Stanley. Together, they built a family rooted in love, laughter, and strength.
Jody's passions were as bold as his personality. He was a die-hard Jacksonville Jaguars and Florida Gators fan, a skilled pool shark competing in professional leagues, an avid bowler and golfer, and a fierce competitor at any card table. Above all, he was best known for his fearless, larger-than-life presence on karaoke nights across Jacksonville-his humor, booming voice, and magnetic energy could turn any night into one of joy and laughter.
Jody is survived by his wife, Maria; his children, Kayla (Rashad Moore) and Charles Stanley; and those he loved as a father, Todd Walker (Brittany Padgett) and Tasia Naegler. He leaves behind his treasured grandchildren: Layanna Williams, Leland Hansley, Amonti Hansley, Julianna Stanley, Reminisce Moore, Romance Moore, Ramses Moore, Noelani Walker, Romulus Moore, and Remus Moore.
He is also survived by his mother and father, Ruth Ann Smith and Joseph Travis Stanley Sr.; his siblings, Janice Stanley Eddy, Michael Stanley, and Kristal Price; His grandparents are Ruby and James Dooley, Urbana Baribe Campos, Rosie Lee & Daniel Northorp Smith as well as his paternal grandparents; and his aunts and uncles; Suzanne Dooley Lotz, Jeanne Dooley Phillips, Jim Dooley Jr., Samantha Joe, Terry Murrhee, Pamela Sue Hartley, Peggy and Bob Moneyham, Timmy Smith, Danny Smith, and Robert Smith. Jody is also remembered by his many cousins and extended family.
Joseph Travis Stanley Jr. will be laid to rest with military honors at Jacksonville National Cemetery on October 24, 2025, at 11:00 AM. Procession to the committal shelter will begin in Lane Two.
Jody will forever be remembered for his fearless spirit, his love of family, and his gift for bringing laughter wherever he went. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
