Joseph F. Surniak

Joseph F. Surniak, 80, of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 22, 2026, at Holy Spirit Hospital. Born on December 18, 1945, in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Joseph Surniak and Winifred (Grove) Surniak.

Joseph was a high school graduate who pursued his passion as a racecar driver, competing locally in Silver Spring, Williams Grove, and Selinsgrove. Racing was more than a hobby-it was a true love that remained close to his heart throughout his life. He was especially proud to pass that passion on to his son and cherished the time they spent working together.

Joseph was a 50 year member of Sheet Metal Workers' Local Union 19. Outside of work, he enjoyed a variety of hobbies throughout his life, including: skiing, fishing, bowling, and traveling.

Above all else, Joseph cherished his family. Time spent with those he loved most was what mattered most to him, and his legacy will live on in the memories they shared.

He leaves behind his two children, Stephen Surniak and Anne C. (Matthew) Burkley; and his two grandchildren, Cole and Owen Burkley.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Bibiana Surniak.

Services will be in the spring.
