Funeral services for Joseph William Thacker, 69, of Nacogdoches, will be held at 2pm, on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at Laird Funeral Home with family, officiating.
Mr. Thacker passed away on July 16, 2023, in
Shreveport, Louisiana. He was born on March 29, 1954.
Joseph William Thacker was born in
Asbury Park, New Jersey and has spent the past 40 years in Texas. He honorably served for 4 years in the US Army and was proud of his countrymen. Joseph was the father of 3 wonderful children and loved them all equally. He taught them what they needed to know to grow into responsible adults and was proud of them. His heart was overjoyed with the title of "papaw", a term he loved to hear! He also had a special fondness for the precious ones who called him "uncle".
Joseph was a simple man who enjoyed being outdoors and working with his hands. He was skilled in woodworking and built many things over the years including benches, cabinets and shelves. He most recently remodeled his own home and made it just as he wanted. His simple way of life and being surrounded by family was what his time revolved around. He was very humbled to know that his great-niece, Marica, named her son William Joseph after him and Grandpa Bill. Joseph loved butter pecan ice cream, milk and his dogs. He was a hard worker and had a witty sense of humor. His enthusiasm for motorcycles was very prominent and he spent as many days as possible "Ridin' Free", just like he liked to live. His love of family and freedom is what he taught his kids and these teachings included that they should always defend and take care of their families and do whatever you had to do for that to happen. He never relied on anyone for anything, instead, he did everything himself. "Stubbs", as he was known, was a great man who spent his life living out the bikers Code of Honor: Loyalty, Respect, Brotherhood, Unity, Personal Responsibility, Accountability and prestige to his bike (because his life depended on it).
Joseph is survived by children, Joe Thacker II of Nacogdoches, Justin Thacker & Siobhan Pearson of Nacogdoches and Michelle McCann & Ricky of Texas City; grandchildren, Chris Johnson, Nikki Johnson, Hailey Thacker, Aries Thacker, Logan Thacker, Jazmine Roberts and Jaxton Thacker; 6 great-grandchildren (#7 expected this fall); sisters, Lura Fay Nation & Bill of Cushing and Helen McGovern of
Lakeview, Ohio; sister-in-law, Martha Thacker; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Jim Thacker, Rudy & Don Sattler, Jesse Thacker and Kitty & Butch Callahan.
