Frances Ferguson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Laird Funeral Home on Jan. 7, 2026.
A graveside service for Frances Anne Jones Ferguson, 85, of Nacogdoches, will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at Sunset Memorial Park. Mrs. Ferguson passed away on January 6, 2026, in Nacogdoches. She was born on July 4, 1940, in Center to the late, Cecil and Verda Newberry Jones.

Frances Anne Jones Ferguson, age 85, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family and friends.

She was born on July 4, 1940, in Center, Texas, the only child of Cecil and Verda Jones. She was raised in East Texas and graduated from Nacogdoches High School in 1958. She began her college education at Stephen F. Austin State University, and later transferred to the University of Texas at Austin, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1962.

On May 4, 1968, Frances married William "Bill" Ferguson. They shared a loving and devoted marriage, and together they built a life rooted in commitment, faith, and family, and were married for 53 years until Bill's passing in 2022.

After settling in Nacogdoches, Frances began her career working at Fleming's Young Years, a beloved children's clothing store in the community. She later proudly owned and operated the store alongside her husband. Fleming's became more than a business–it was a cherished gathering place where generations of families shopped, friendships were formed, and Frances' warmth, kindness and personal attention to every child and parent made the store a special part of the town. Those years spent building the store together were among the most joyful and meaningful of their lives.

Family was always the center of Frances' life. She found her greatest joy in being a mother and, especially, a grandmother. Nothing brought her more happiness than time spent with her four grandchildren, whom she adored beyond measure. Whether cheering them on, sharing stories, or simply being present, she made each of them feel deeply loved and endlessly supported. In her later years, her grandchildren called her every day, a reflection of the deep bond they shared and a testament to how cherished she was. Those daily conversations became a source of comfort, love, and connection for them all.

Frances was also a treasured friend. She had a gift for making people feel welcome and valued, and she was blessed with lifelong friendships that spanned every season of her life. From childhood companions to friendships formed through work, parenting, and shared interests, she nurtured these relationships with loyalty and genuine care. Many of these friendships endured for decades and became an extension of her family. Her sense of community was further reflected in her devoted involvement in the Koinonia Study Club for over 40 years, as well as book clubs, Bible studies and her lifelong membership at First United Methodist Church.

An avid sports fan, Frances rarely missed a game and loved spirited conversations about her favorite teams. Win or lose, she watched with enthusiasm and heart. She also had a special love for dogs, especially her two golden retrievers, Happy and Honey, who were her constant companions and brought her daily comfort and joy.

Frances is preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Verda Jones, and her beloved husband, William "Bill" Ferguson. She is survived by her daughter, April Ferguson Seaback, and her husband Doug, and grandchildren Luke, Kyle, Anna Kate and Ali Seaback.

A graveside service will be held on January 17, 2026, at 2:00 pm at Sunset Memorial Park in Nacogdoches. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in her memory to Love, Inc. at loveincnac.org.

Frances will be remembered for her warm smile, her generous spirit, and her unwavering love for those around her. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.
