With profound sorrow and heavy hearts, we bid farewell to our beloved Joseph C. Tolbert, who passed away on 15 December 2023. He has a new address which is 106 Heaven Lane. He is preceded in death by his sister Mariyn, and two brothers Robert Daltry and Richard Tolbert. Joseph was a beacon of strength, love, and resilience, touching the lives of all who were fortunate to know him.
Born to Julius and Daisy Ellen Daltry on 29 October 1945, Joseph grew up in Boston, Massachusetts. From an early age, he exhibited qualities of determination and kindness that would define his life's journey. As a son, he was a pillar of support and affection, cherishing the values instilled in him by his family. If you lived on Crawford St, you knew him as Joey, Uncle Joey, Big Joey or just Joeyyy. He found pure joy and fulfillment in the artistry and aroma of working at Casanoff bakery as a young child and would bring fresh bakery items home every Friday filling his heart with so much delight.
Upon reaching adulthood, Joseph answered the call of duty, bravely serving his country in the Vietnam War. As a Vietnam Veteran, he demonstrated unparalleled courage, facing challenges with unwavering resolve serving multiple tours as a Heavy Anti-Armor Weapons Infantryman. His 23 years of honorable service was not just a testament to his patriotism but also highlighted his selfless dedication to protecting the freedoms cherished by all.
In the midst of his service, Joseph found love in the eyes of Prescilla. Their bond was one of profound love, understanding, and mutual respect. Together, they built a life filled with cherished memories, overcoming hurdles with the strength of their commitment to each other. As a husband, he was a rock, providing unwavering support and love to his beloved. As one they blazed a profound journey of selflessness and growth committing to the act of serving, extending a hand of compassion, understanding, and support, offering their time, knowledge, and resources to uplift others. Their impact on others is a testament to the human spirit's innate desire to connect, nurture, and make a positive difference in the lives of those around us.
His greatest joy was found in the role of a father. Joseph poured his heart and soul into nurturing and guiding Shanique, Tanja, and Brianna, imparting wisdom, and creating lasting memories. His children were his pride and joy, and his legacy lives on in the values, lessons, and love he shared with them. He was a faithful leader within the Masonic Order and served as a steward from the community while piloting multiple businesses.
