Joseph Walker Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 10, 2018.
Mr. Joseph David Walker, of Norfolk, Virginia, born on May 14, 1954 at Sampson AFB, NY, passed away peacefully at age 64 on October 6, 2018. He was predeceased by his loving parents, John H and Gloria C Funk. Joe's two older brothers, Jerry Funk of The Villages, Florida, and John G. Funk of Laguna Niguel, California, were at his side at the time of his passing. Joe was wonderfully cared for in his final days by the Sentara Hospital and Hospice staff.

Joe was a graduate of Lake Taylor High School. He was a brick mason by trade and enjoyed playing acoustic guitar and listening to Southern Rock. He is survived by his two brothers, John (Stephanie) and Jerry (Genene), six loving nieces and nephews and best friend/canine companion, Rudy. Joe will be sorely missed by family and friends.

Joe's ashes will be interned at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Norfolk with his mother and father. There will be a private gravesite ceremony scheduled in the near future.

I'm so sorry to hear of Joe's passing. He had a special place in my heart. While my Funk cousins lived farther away from us than my other cousins when we were growing up, I had several opportunities to get to know Joe better later in life when I lived in North Carolina and Virginia. During those visits I learned that he and I shared a love of Van Morrison's music. I will always remember my visits with him fondly. Let his soul and spirit fly into the mystic.

So sorry to hear of Joe's passing. I have great memories of visiting the Funk's in Virginia when I was kid. Enjoying catching turtles, eating fresh caught flounder and listening to the music the Funk boys would play/sing. What a show ya'll would put on. Bless all of your hearts...
