Joseph T. Wolstencroft
March 24, 1928 – March 12, 2025
Portsmouth – Retired Master Sergeant Joseph T. Wolstencroft, United States Air Force, 96, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, March 12th.
Born on March 24, 1928, in Fall River, Massachusetts, he was the son of Frederick and Lillian (Holleran) Wolstencroft.
Joseph was a proud 27-year veteran of the U.S. military, dedicating much of his life to serving his country and community. He initially enlisted in the Navy and later retired as a Master Sergeant with the U.S. Air Force. Throughout his distinguished career, he served in three major wars-World War II, the Korean Conflict, and the Vietnam War. His dedication and bravery earned him numerous accolades, including the Bronze Star, the Air Force Commendation Medal, and both bronze and silver oak leaf clusters.
After retiring from the military, Joseph continued his service to the nation by working for 20 years at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. Later, he embraced a second retirement, working as a parking attendant at the city parking garages, where his friendly demeanor and dedication were cherished by all who met him.
Committed to lifelong learning, Joseph earned a bachelor's degree in business administration later in life, exemplifying his passion for personal growth. He was an avid reader, and especially enjoyed watching western and military based films. Joe had a love of nature and loved all of God's creatures.
Faith played a central role in Joseph's life. He was a devoted parishioner of St. James Church, where he served as a lector and was instrumental in the success of the church's annual Christmas Bazaar. A man guided by faith, family, and service, he was honored to have had an audience with Pope Pius XII and received a personal blessing-an experience he held dear.
Above all, Joseph was a devoted family man, cherished for his strength, kindness, and unwavering love. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Joseph was predeceased by his brothers, Thomas and Freddie Wolstencroft.
