Joseph Young Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by George S. Hassler Funeral Home - Jackson Township on Dec. 28, 2025.
Joseph M. Young, 85, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2025, at Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus, Lakewood. Born in Brooklyn and raised in Staten Island, he settled and raised his family in Jackson, NJ. He served many roles in the Jackson community including volunteering for the Jackson Mills Fire Department, a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus, and was a dedicated coach for his son George, with Holbrook Little League and Jackson Pop Warner teams for many years.

Joe served as a dedicated and active tradesman for the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union (UA Local #9) for most of his career. He took great pride in honest work and a job done right the first time. Known for his reliability, craftsmanship, and incredible attention to detail, he believed that quality work was always a reflection of one's character. Those who knew him, not only trusted him for his expertise, but for his fairness, kindness, and ability to always help others.

Throughout his younger years, Joe lived life with energy and adventure. He shared a strong bond with his younger brother, George. Together they were passionate and practiced karate, an experience that built discipline, respect, friendships, and memories lasting a lifetime. He also loved the outdoors and spent time hunting and fishing, finding peace and fulfillment in nature. In his later years, Joe became an enthusiastic collector and took pride in his collections of sports cards, beanie babies, NASCAR cars, Thomas Kinkade paintings, and coins. He was a loyal patriot and dedicated supporter of our country, with deep respect and gratitude for all veterans that served. For decades, he shared his generosity beyond his family, donating to multiple charities and helping others in need throughout his life.

A lifelong sports fan, he proudly followed his Rangers, Mets, and Giants, never missing a game. His special love for his dog, Molly, was special and brought him much joy in his last few years.

As a husband, father and grandfather, he was reserved but always present and supportive in our lives. He deeply loved his children and grandchildren, faithfully attending all important events and milestones, showing his unconditional love through his consistent presence, encouragement, and support. Joe will be fondly remembered for his love of family, exceptional work ethic, his dedication to his passions, his generosity, and the calm, reassuring presence he brought to everyone around him.

He is predeceased by his wife, Eletta Young; his parents, Myles and Rose Young; his brother, George Young. He is survived by his son, George Joseph Young and wife, Christine Marie; daughter, Theresa Casalaspro and David Bouthot; his grandchildren, Joseph Michael Young, George Myles Young, Elizabeth Rose Young, Thomas Francis Young, and Josephine Eletta Casalaspro; his great-granddaughter Belle Valentina Gomes.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his visitation from 6-8 PM on Friday, January 2, 2026, at the GEORGE S. HASSLER FUNERAL HOME, 980 Bennetts Mills Rd., Jackson, NJ. A funeral gathering will be offered at 8 AM on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at the funeral home. His Funeral Liturgy will follow at 9 AM at St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church, 935 Bennetts Mills Rd., Jackson, NY. Entombment will follow in Ocean County Memorial Park, 1722 Silverton Rd., Toms River, NJ. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Joseph's memory to Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Blvd., Staten Island, NY 10306, www.t2t.org., and would be greatly appreciated.
