Joseph Young Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Small’s Mortuary - Mobile on Feb. 24, 2026.
On Wednesday, February 18, 2026, Joseph Charles Young, Sr., affectionately known as Joe, departed this life at the age of 71 years old. Joe was born on November 25, 1954 to the late Oscar Lee Young, Sr. and Ora Bell Young (Wright) of Daphne, Alabama. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, stepson, three brothers, four sisters, and a host of in-laws.

Joe was a man of few words but a remarkably big heart. Joe lived his life with a quiet footprint, expressing his love through the work of his hands and the steady help he offered to anyone in need. A man of many talents, Joe was truly at home in the world he built. Whether he was under the hood of a car, grilling in the yard, enjoying the stillness of the woods while hunting and fishing, or sitting in front of the television watching WWE, Joe found joy in the simple pleasures of life.

Joe leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife, Nancy Young; children: son, Joseph "Lil Joe" Young, Jr. (Jasmine), stepson preceded in death, Gary Shephard (Shena), and stepdaughter, Felicia Shephard. Eleven grandchildren: Tyara Westbrook, Precious Watsons, Isaiah "Bink" Featherston, Ricky "Deuce" Riley Jr, Isaiah "Zay" Riley, Lailah Shephard, Kameron (Bridget) Mitchell, Keyonte Mitchell, Alana Campbell, Rory "Chris" Holmes, Jr., and Jeremiah Holmes. Great-grandchildren: Kamdyn Mitchell, and Ezra Shephard. Two brothers Willie L. Young and Earnest Young, and one sister, Dianne Lott, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, in-laws, and friends, and a faithful four legged companion "Buddy".

Joe also leaves to cherish his memory his beloved niece and nephews, Regina Brown, Jeffery Young, and Elbert "Bouncy" Hammond IV.The greatest chapter of Joe's life on earth was his decision to give his life to Jesus, Christ.

His spirit remains in our hearts as vibrant as the memories he leaves with us all. Joe taught us that you don't need many words to make a lasting impact, you simply need a willing heart, a constant hand, and a generous soul.
