Josephine Vivian Baldwin

Josephine Vivian Baldwin passed away peacefully on January 5th with her loving daughter at her bedside. Josephine was born in New York City to Mildred McLendon and William Baldwin. Josephine was a Renaissance Woman with Christian values which she carried throughout her life. Josephine earned her baccalaureate from Saint Francis College and remained engaged with her alumni association. She loved history, she was an incredible storyteller with a great sense of humor. Josephine was a lifelong learner who received her Master's degree at age 61 from NYU Wagner Graduate School.
Josephine taught at Bellevue School of Radiologic Technology, as an educator she prepared her students to become skilled imaging specialists, she supported their growth during the program and after graduation. Josephine's commitment to their education and her own personal growth positively impacted many lives.
Josephine never married, however she built a wonderful New York City life filled with family and friends who enjoyed opera, jazz, church and travel. She shared holidays with her family members in North Carolina and Atlanta, throughout the years, she nurtured and supported young family members with explorations of New York theater, history, and demonstrated independence that guided her own journey.
In addition to her daughter, Josephine was a proud godmother and 'aunt' to many who will forever carry her legacy of self-determination and love. Josephine never met a stranger, she was a source of joy to all who knew her, she will be greatly missed by her extended family and friends.
Memorial service and celebration of Josephine's life will be held on Saturday January 18th at 2pm at Christ Church Riverdale, 5040 Henry Hudson Parkway East, Bronx NY 10471.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Breast Cancer Foundation/Susan G. Komen or the American Cancer Society.
