Josephine Inge Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bermingham Funeral Home, Inc. - Wharton on Jan. 19, 2026.
Josephine E. Inge (nee McGovern), 94, of Randolph, NJ passed away peacefully in her sleep on 01/15/26 at Sunrise Assisted Living of Randolph following a long decline.
Born in 1931 in Brooklyn, NY to Bernard and Virginia (nee Breuer) McGovern, she married her life mate Joseph in 1952 during their lunch break at John Street Methodist Church in New York City. Josephine was a proud and selfless homemaker and an avid environmentalist who spent the majority of her adult life on Staten Island, NY, where she raised two sons.

She is survived by her sons Stephen Inge of Amelia Island, FL and Timothy Inge of Succasunna, NJ, grandchildren Courtney (Michael) of Succasunna, NJ, Michael Inge (Kristen) of Greenbelt, MD, Hailey Inge of Phoenix, AZ, and Daniel Inge of Ledgewood, NJ. She was also a great-grandmother to Olivia and Charlie Inge.

She was pre-deceased by her husband of 72 years, Joseph H. Inge, Jr, her sister, Virginia Warner, and daughter-in-law, Kathryn Inge.
If you haven't yet, please read Tim's " Life Story of Joseph Hailey Inge Jr. & Josephine Elizabeth Inge (nee McGovern)" posted when Joseph passed on 02/02/25.
Mom's on her way Dad! . Josie would be without Joe for 348 days after his passing on 02/02/25. This was the only time in 72 years that they would be apart for more than about a week at a time, required travel for dad's work occasionally, back in the day. She would tell Tim on almost every visit with her at Sunrise how much she missed Joe. Tim remembers one visit where mom very matter of factly told him that recently "Dad and I had a long talk, we worked out a great many things!"
At peace . In this moment the news stings, but it is welcome as it's the end of suffering in so many forms.
Independence & Dependence . You need both in a great partnership, don't you? Mom was tough as nails, she had to be, she did it all! and through it all, she was Joe's partner. A partnership requires each to trust, love and be vulnerable and yes dependent on each other. So now you have some insight into my reasoning for ONE obit for a union that has just entered the next 72 years, after just a brief respite. There is no doubt "This two became one flesh".
Heaven . keep your eyes peeled for a lady walking her dog Kelly, dutifully refreshing the water in the bird baths, shelling peanuts for the squirrels, and making the most exquisite handmade felt Christmas ornaments, I bet they will take your breath away!
