Josephine T. Richards went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, February 22, 2026. She was born

February 8, 1940 in Woodward, Oklahoma to Richard John and Lula Pearl Teten. She had nine siblings;

eight sisters and one brother. Jo was a twin to Maxine Kennedy and there was also a set of triplets;

Janie Brock, Helen Roller, and Harry Teten.

Her father died when she turned 8 years old and her mother worked numerous bookkeeping jobs, so Jo

took on the role of caretaker to her younger siblings teaching her how to care for others. Later in life

she took on the role of caretaker for all her sisters and brother throughout their later years. She

graduated high school from Woodward, OK and attended Oklahoma State University. She worked for

the Guthrie Job Corps Center and then for the Baptist General Convention. She has lived in Paris,

France; Oklahoma City, OK; Choctaw, OK; Lilongwe, Malawi, Africa; Leon, Guanajuato, Mexico; and

Edmond, OK. She enjoyed her work role as a Secretary, serving as a Missionary in Africa and Mexico and

the churches that she has attended. Most of all she loved caring for her immediate and extended

families. She was a devoted Christian and loved the Lord.

On July 11 th 1970 she married the love of her life Vernon Richards Sr. They spent the next thirty years

serving the Lord in every church they attended and on the mission field. They loved traveling and

spending time with family and friends. She lost the love of her life in Africa on the mission field on

February 6 th 2001.

Jo was preceded in death by her husband Vernon Lowell Sr.; her parents Richard and Pearl Teten; sisters

Christina Leist, Billie Clark, Betty Sue Stitt, Maxine Kennedy, Helen Roller, Kathryn Ruse, Dixie Wofford;

and brother Harry Teten; daughter in law Regina Richards; and Granddaughter Racheal Richards.

Jo is survived by her two step-sons, Vernon and Cindy Richards and Steve Richards; grandchildren Sarah

Judkins, Charlie Richards, Keith Richards, Molly Marie Richards; and great grandchildren Ella Judkins,

Elijah Judkins, Eban Judkins, Avery Richards; and sister, Janie Brock. She also has numerous nieces and

nephews.
