Michael Everett Carpenter was born in Oakland, California on October 27, 1944. He was the first-born child of Richard Everett and Olga Marie Carpenter. Mike was named for both of his grandfathers, Michael Frederick Yarotsky and Everett Carpenter. Shortly after his birth, his parents moved to Rochester and Duluth, Minnesota, and then Geneva, New York. Eventually the family settled in Oklahoma City.

In OKC Mike started kindergarten at Horace Mann and completed his elementary education at Zachary Taylor and Millwood schools. He graduated from Northeast High School In 1962. His college years were spent at Oklahoma State University earning his degree in Electrical Engineering. During the summers he worked for Oklahoma Gas & Electric Company.

After graduation he accepted a job with General Electric Company where he was relocated many times through his work in the Installation and Service Engineering Department. He was stationed in Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Orange, Texas; Chamblee, Georgia; Schenectady, New York; De Queen, Arkansas; Oklahoma City and finally Dallas, Texas.

In September 1970 he returned to OKC and joined Oklahoma Gas & Electric Company. He started in Marketing/Sales in charge of large commercial and industrial customers.

While at OG&E he met the love of his life, Louvilla Cornelsen.

In 1971 Mike attended Hudson Avenue Baptist Church where he accepted Christ as he Savior and was baptized. Mike and Lou married on September 4 that same year.

They moved to Edmond, Oklahoma in 1973 and joined Edmond Road Baptist Church where he was ordained as a deacon, served as church treasurer and taught a Sunday school class for many years.

Mike retired from OG&E in September 2001.

Mike and Lou loved to travel, going to Europe, Great Britain, Croatia, Czech Republic and numerous trips in the US and Canada.

In October 2025, they sold their home and moved to Tealridge Retirement Center.

Mike was preceded in death by a baby brother, Douglas Eugene, and his parents, Richard and Olga Carpenter. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Lou; his three sisters Susan (Tony) Scott; Molly Carpenter, and Nancy Carpenter. A step-daughter Melanie (James) Stonecipher; as well as a brother-in-law, Earl Cornelsen; nephew Craig (Tammy) Cornelsen and niece Stacey (Davin) Cates.

Mike will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Edmond Road Baptist Church building fund, or your favorite charity.
