Josephine Dupree Simon was born on November 22, 1944.
She passed away peacefully on May 7, 2025. She was born in Edgecombe County, N.C., to the late Verna Lee Forest and Joseph "Jack" Dupree. Josie was educated in Portsmouth Public Schools, where she graduated from I.C. Norcom High School. Shortly afterwards, she married the late Ernest L. Simon, Jr.; from this union, they raised three children. Josie was a Dedicated, loving, and caring mother. She retired from Norfolk Public Schools and was employed at the Commonwealth Senior Living at Ballentine until her illness. She dedicated her life to caring for the needs of others, no matter the task at hand.
Josephine was preceded in death by her late husband, Ernest L. Simon, Jr., and her three brothers, Frank James Dupree, Linwood Shelley, and George "Billy" Shelley.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Patricia "Pat Little," Thelma "Patrice" Johns, and Ernest "Man" Simon III; her eight grandchildren, DeLisa Cooper, Ashley Simon, Ebony Cooper, Cierra Washington (William), Shakile Williams (Antonio), Ashanti Little, Jovon Cooper, and Jameer Johns; her 18 great-grandchildren; her three sisters, Margaret Southall (George), Ruth Jones and Constance Shelley; two sister-in-laws, Dorothy Hinton and Letitia Simon; one brother-in-law, Charlie "Boo" Simon; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.
