Joshua Cash Doebele of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away on Friday, October 24, 2025, at the age of 42.
Born on November 27, 1982, in Lincoln, Nebraska, Josh was the oldest son of Bryce Clayton Doebele and Jaynie Margaret Cash.
From an early age, Josh shared a deep love of sports with his dad and his younger brother, Alex. Weekends were filled with baseball, soccer, and his greatest passion – basketball. A gifted athlete, Josh brought energy and heart to every team he was part of, including during his years at Shawnee Mission Northwest. He cherished the friendships he made in his neighborhood growing up and throughout high school. Josh attended the University of Kansas, where he also made many lifelong friends.
In 2013, Josh met the love of his life, Anna O’Connor, at a Mumford & Sons concert. The two enjoyed traveling together, being with family and friends and their cats, Zuul and Tito.
Josh was also a proud and devoted uncle to his nieces, Reese, Sloan, and Blair Doebele and Ashtyn O’Connor, who adored their “Uncle Josh.”
Gone far too soon, Josh will be remembered by his blue eyes, contagious smile, warmth and sense of humor. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Josh is survived by his partner, Anna O’Connor of Overland Park; his mother, Jaynie Doebele; his brother and sister-in-law, Alex and Michelle Doebele; his nieces, Reese, Sloan, and Blair; his grandmother, Margaret Cash; a large, loving extended family in Birmingham, England and the extended O’Connor family.
A visitation will be held Saturday, November 1 at 10:00 a.m., followed by a service at 11:00 a.m. at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home (14275 S Black Bob Rd, Olathe, KS 66062).
If you wish to contribute to a memorial fund in Josh's name, please Venmo @Elisabeth-Johnsrud (last 4 digits of phone number are 4417), the Trailridge Middle School Counselor. She will then make the deposit to the fund. Josh's loved ones would like this fund to benefit students who are in need at Trailridge Middle School, where he once attended middle school.
